Hospice Care in North Texas

Hospice Care That Grows, but Feels Small

Discharge is ready, but home support and symptom management are not yet in place. If you are a family member or a clinician, you may recognize that moment. You want your loved one, or your patient, to be safe and comfortable. Hospice care exists to fill that gap.

AlēvCare Hospice steps into that space with a highly trained team, and a clear plan so home does not feel like a downgrade, it feels like the right next step.

At AlēvCare, “growing small” means we can serve more families without losing the close, hometown feel that matters most. Our team brings expert hospice support into your home while still knowing you by name, listening to your story, and shaping care around what matters to your family, so you never feel like just another case in the system.

What is Hospice Care?

Hospice care is specialized support for people living with a life-limiting illness when the focus shifts from cure to comfort and quality of life.

Hospice does not mean giving up. Instead, it means:

Prioritizing comfort, dignity, and relief from distressing symptoms

Supporting family caregivers with education and hands-on help

Helping patients remain where they feel most at ease whenever possible

Aligning care with what matters most to the patient and family

Most people qualify for hospice when a physician believes that, if the illness follows its usual course, life expectancy may be about six months or less. Many families tell us they wish they had started hospice earlier, because it gave them more time with support, not less.

Who Can Benefit From Hospice Care?

Hospice care can help adults with a wide range of serious illnesses, including but not limited to:

  • Advanced heart disease, COPD, or other lung conditions
  • Kidney failure and other serious organ disease
  • Cancer
  • Neurologic conditions such as dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and ALS
  • Frailty and decline related to age and multiple chronic conditions

Hospice may be appropriate if you notice:

  • Frequent hospitalizations or emergency room visits
  • Worsening symptoms despite treatment
  • Increased falls, infections, or weakness
  • More time in bed or in a chair and less time doing usual activities
  • Weight loss or poor appetite
  • Families feeling overwhelmed by the level of care needed

If you are unsure whether it is time, our team can review your situation and help you understand options. There is no obligation to begin hospice just because you asked questions.

Support for Children and Teens

When children or teens are part of the family story, they need support that is different from adults. AlēvCare Hospice is the only hospice in our coverage area with a full-time Child Life Specialist.

Our Child Life Specialist helps:

  • Children and young adults (approximately ages 4–22) understand illness, changes, and loss
  • Parents and caregivers find age-appropriate words and ways to talk about what is happening
  • Families create meaningful memories and rituals during a very difficult time

This role is not required by Medicare and is not reimbursed. We offer it because we believe young people affected by serious illness deserve specialized care.

My mother was cared for by AlevCare during the last few months of her life. From the administration, volunteers, chaplains, aids and especially the nurses the care she received was top notch. My sister and I feel that their compassionate and thoughtful care greatly improved the quality of her life. Additionally, they communicated with us frequently and we knew what to expect. Since Mom passed (gently and painlessly)they have been very supportive for our family.

I highly recommend AlevCare.

Miss Becky came into my life from a referral. What an absolute Godsend she is! Her crew were quick to get a hospital bed and supplies to my house and all of the people she sent were the very best at what they do. First it was a company called Horizon that came and set up the bed, oxygen and supplies. Mark at Horizon was professional and fast at delivery and pick up. They also had medications delivered to my door! Then it was the Case Worker, Tonya, and the RN Carlie that made decisions that were best for our situation. Two nurse angels from Mercy named Carol and Kristin took shifts to keep my darling husband comfortable while I grieved. There was also Nurse Celia who was so compassionate and patient with my confused husband!! Miss Becky had everything under control during a heartbreaking time for me and from start to finish the whole team was compassionate, professional and extremely competent. I recommend AlevCare Hospice very highly should your family be in the heartbreaking situation we were in. I call them the parade of angels that show up and manage the entire process for you. Thank you to this lovely team of sweet professionals! I will be grateful to each one of you for the rest of my life!
