When hospice enters the conversation, questions usually follow. You may be wondering what hospice really is, when it might be time to start, who pays for it, how it works with your doctor, or what to expect in the days ahead. You may have searched online, only to find complicated language, conflicting answers, or information that doesn’t feel personal to your situation.

This page is here to help. It offers practical guidance, straightforward answers, and deeper education so you can make decisions with more confidence and less fear. Whether you are looking for a quick explanation or thoughtful articles you can return to over time, this is a good place to begin.

How Our Resources Can Help

Our goal is to make hospice easier to understand and less overwhelming for families, caregivers, and clinicians alike.

  • Learn what hospice should look like day to day in real homes and facilities
  • Understand how eligibility and how the Medicare hospice benefit works
  • Explore topics such as grief, caregiving, child and teen support, and family needs
  • Share trusted resources with family members who may still have questions or concerns

You do not need to read everything at once. These resources are here for you to use when and how you need them.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Sometimes you just need a straight answer. Our Frequently Asked Questions page addresses the topics families and clinicians ask us most often, including:

  • What hospice is and how it differs from home health
  • Who pays for hospice and what Medicare covers
  • When to consider hospice and how eligibility is determined
  • Where hospice care can be provided
  • How our team works alongside your current doctors and facilities

If you are early in the process of exploring hospice, the FAQ page is often a helpful first step.

Blog: Articles, Guides, and Stories

Some questions need more than a brief explanation. They need context, stories, and space to absorb what it all means.

Our Blog offers:

  • Articles that explain complex hospice topics in clear, everyday language
  • Practical guides for families, caregivers, and clinicians
  • Insights into our Grow Small philosophy and how it shapes the care we provide
  • Supportive content related to grief, resilience, and caring for children and teens
  • Occasional reflections and stories that offer a glimpse into what hospice can look and feel like

You can read these at your own pace, share them with others, and return to them as things change.

For Families, Caregivers, and Clinicians

These resources are designed to support people at different points along the journey:

  • Families who are just beginning to ask, “Is it time for hospice”
  • Caregivers who are already receiving hospice care and want to know what to expect next
  • Clinicians and referral partners looking for clear, trusted information to share with patients and families

Wherever you are on the journey, you do not have to piece this together on your own.

The WHOLE STAFF was professional, compassionate, informative, patient, and responsive. Their team made the whole process of mom's passing less stressful. They were caring and comforting. My sister and I are very grateful for the service of AlevCare Hospice of Mansfield, Texas.

My mother was cared for by AlevCare during the last few months of her life. From the administration, volunteers, chaplains, aids and especially the nurses the care she received was top notch. My sister and I feel that their compassionate and thoughtful care greatly improved the quality of her life. Additionally, they communicated with us frequently and we knew what to expect. Since Mom passed (gently and painlessly)they have been very supportive for our family.

I highly recommend AlevCare.

Miss Becky came into my life from a referral. What an absolute Godsend she is! Her crew were quick to get a hospital bed and supplies to my house and all of the people she sent were the very best at what they do. First it was a company called Horizon that came and set up the bed, oxygen and supplies. Mark at Horizon was professional and fast at delivery and pick up. They also had medications delivered to my door! Then it was the Case Worker, Tonya, and the RN Carlie that made decisions that were best for our situation. Two nurse angels from Mercy named Carol and Kristin took shifts to keep my darling husband comfortable while I grieved. There was also Nurse Celia who was so compassionate and patient with my confused husband!! Miss Becky had everything under control during a heartbreaking time for me and from start to finish the whole team was compassionate, professional and extremely competent. I recommend AlevCare Hospice very highly should your family be in the heartbreaking situation we were in. I call them the parade of angels that show up and manage the entire process for you. Thank you to this lovely team of sweet professionals! I will be grateful to each one of you for the rest of my life!
