Specialized Child and Teen Support
Children and teens feel the impact of serious illness in ways that are often overlooked. They hear whispers, feel tension in the home, and sense change long before adults realize it, yet they often don’t have the words to ask what is happening.
AlēvCare Hospice is the only hospice in our service area that employs a full-time Child Life Specialist. We choose to provide this service because we believe children and teenagers deserve the same level of thoughtful, developmentally appropriate support during some of life’s most difficult moments.
Our Child Life Specialist helps by:
- Supporting children and young adults, generally ages 4 through early adulthood
- Using play, art, stories, and conversation to explain illness, changes, and end of life in age appropriate ways
- Giving kids and teens safe ways to express fear, sadness, anger, and love
- Coaching parents, grandparents, and caregivers on how to talk with children about what’s happening
- Providing grief and bereavement resources tailored to different ages and stages of development
- Bringing nationally-recognized expertise in childhood grief and coping

If hospice is the right fit and you choose to begin services, we coordinate admission, deliver equipment and medications, and begin visits, often within 24 hours when needed.
